Spoken word poetry and performance are central to our engagement. As a youth organisation established in 2012, we are renowned for our spoken word videos and our progressive approach to arts education, which has reached thousands. 

Through our thriving social media presence of 40,000 fans and followers, we aim to foster respect, provide platforms for exchanging ideas, and facilitate change from local to international communities—all through the dynamic and innovative influence of spoken word poetry and performance. 

We believe everyone has the potential to be a creative writer, and we strive to cultivate an inclusive environment where facts, humor, and compelling narratives can flourish and resonate with those who need them most: young people. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Volunteer to use creative talents to advance the initiatives of the organisation.
  • Facilitate and manage after-school clubs.
  • Assist in designing and implementing programmes and curriculum.
  • Assistance in facilitation of writing and performance.
  • Create cutting-edge and relevant literary work.
  • Media engagement.
What you should consider:
  • 17 – 24 years old
  • Proficiency in literary performance.
  • Genuine desire to grow in writing and performance proficiency.
  • Thorough understanding of the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy and The 2CM 2020 Audit documents (See Here: https://2centsmovement.org/info/).
What assets will help:
What assets could help (not mandatory):
  • Any illustration of First Citizens National Poetry Slam (and similar competitive efforts) consistency and success.
  • Experience & a strong desire to be in youth-related work and engagement.
  • Police certificate of character (18+ only).
  • Demonstrated interest in competition or publications of performance/writing/art.
  • Eligibility for the On the Job Training programme.

In the years that I have practised spoken word poetry, no organisation has been more instrumental to my professional development than The 2 Cents movement. Not only did I find a community of like-minded artists, but I learned how to see and use the artform not for personal gain, but as a vehicle for societal change. The opportunities to perform for various clientele, to learn how to be an effective orator from veterans in the industry, and to teach these lessons to a younger generation so that they may see & utilise poetry in a similar way afforded to me, have been invaluable to morphing me into the spoken word poet I am today.

I have seen tremendous growth in my craft as a spoken word poet since joining The 2 Cents Movement in 2022. I progressed from competing in 2CM's Secondary Schools' Poetry Slam to performing on the biggest spoken word stage in the Caribbean. Emerging as a finalist in the FCNPS this year is one of the greatest testaments to how the organisation has fostered my artistic development. I also experienced growth in my leadership skills, particularly as I took on the role of main facilitator of the Future Authors Club. I will forever be grateful to the students who allowed me to mentor and shape them as artists. As I taught, I also learned so much from them. During my time with 2CM, I continue to witness the immense power of community.
