Port of Spain – The 2 Cents Movement, a youth-led, non-profit organisation that uses performance art in youth outreach received the Community Excellence Award 2024 at the 17th Annual Dinner and Awards for Media Excellence from the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers & Broadcasters Association, which was held at the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry & Commerce.
Derron Sandy, the group’s Operations Director, and Javaughn Forde, the newly appointed Artistic Director, received the award.
Sandy said, “The organisation has been an integral part of the lives of many young people and has given me the building blocks for most of what I do today.” He commended the new generation of Core Artists of The 2 Cents Movement for their quiet, arduous and impactful work, adding, “This award is especially for them too.”
Other awarded attendees were veteran journalist Dominic Kalipersad and film producer Christopher Laird for Media Excellence.
